Nose To
Nose, Tails Just A Wagging...
May, 2005
And so it will be . . .
You see, on the evening of Monday, May 2, 2005, my beloved boy Dagwood
slipped away--with me standing nearby, there by his side. Truly,
he died quite unexpectedly--as I had only found him lying there
motionless just a few hours earlier--having walked right by him several
times over the course of the day; I simply thought he was sleeping.
If I was to venture a guess--I would have to say that he expired from
heart failure. Thankfully, his last few hours alive here were
without any pain or suffering. Even so, it was sad to lose him
after all of these years of being together.
Whether "Daggy" was just lying around soaking up the afternoon rays of
the overhead sun, or whether he was comfortably sprawled inside by the
wood stove during colder weather--he had finally come to "blend in" with
the rest of the dogs. Moreover, he had come to trust and love me.
Many were the times I purposely reached down and rubbed his brown
head--watching and smiling as his tail slowly wagged back and forth.
It was such a good feeling to know, that I had finally won his
friendship.
And
even though I've lost my precious boy Dagwood--I can't help but think
positive thoughts--about how happy he was here and what a good life he
led. Now, Dagwood is buried near the very same gate where he and
Allie Mae were last seen together all those years ago. And, I'm
quite sure--shortly thereafter, there was a most joyous reunion.
Yes, I truly do see two beautiful, elated, "reunited" dogs
standing there together--nose to nose, tails just a wagging . . .
