Many are the times that
I have been asked why The Trixie Foundation offers "care-for-life" to
its animals. Actually, the reasons are very simple. How
many of you are aware that out of all the dogs and cats born each
year, only about 10% will live out a happy, wonderful life with
a family for its entire lifetime? Most animals born are not so
lucky. Many litters end up at the animal shelter (in places that
actually have one), surrendered because their owner neglected to
either spay or neuter them. Too, many more are simply
abandoned--thrown away like garbage (as people throughout rural
Kentucky and Appalachia know only too well). These poor innocent
animals end up searching for food in desperation, eventually becoming
weakened and dying of starvation. Others are hit by motor
vehicles, some are shot or poisoned. Life is not very pretty for
society's unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats. . . .
Moreover, how many of you realize that almost 80% of the
animals that people adopt as pets are either re-adopted or euthanized
within 2 years from the time they were originally adopted? That
is a staggering amount of animals that, through no fault of their
own--have had their life completely destroyed--destroyed simply
because of the unfortunate change of circumstances in the life of
their guardian.
Thus, here at The Trixie Foundation sanctuary, our objective is to
make sure that all of the animals in our charge--live the very
happiest and contented life that can be provided. Over the
years, we have taken in abused dogs, unwanted pups, mother dogs with
her entire litter, abandoned dogs, injured or sickly dogs of all size,
age, and description--even dogs that their guardian was no longer able
to provide for or take care of. Moreover, in the last couple of
years--we have begun providing a permanent home for numerous unwanted
and abandoned cats and kittens. Although we know that we can't
save all of the animals in the world who have nowhere to turn to for
love, affection and security--that won't keep us from trying. We
just need a little help. How about you--will you help us help
them?
